Zetan Spore was originally formed in West Cornwall, UK by Ian Hasdell in 1995. After being inspired . . . by psychedelic rock in the late 80’s and it’s evolution into early dance acts such as Eat Static and Astralasia, and then by the birth of psytrance in the first half of the 90’s, Ian bought a second hand Amiga 1200 computer and started arranging samples to form his own style of psychedelic dance music. After releasing his first album, “Alien Frequencies” in 1996 and then getting heavily into the world of synths and sampling, his twin brother Mark came on board, playing guitar and didgeridoo to form their unique synergistic partnership.
Together they brought out the next Zetan Spore album, “Visitation” in 1997 and were then signed to Aardvark Records, where they have so far released another ten albums: “The Pillars of Creation” (1998), “Subspace Distortions” (1999), “Outer Space Hopper Safari” (2001), “Transwarp Audio Head Drive” (2002), “Burn Up” (2004), “Escape Velocity” (2005), “Flux” (2007), “Tribes of the Stars” (2010), “Psilocybia” (2013) and their latest release “Dimensions” (2018).
Having played their first gig in 1997 and being more motivated by the live side of music, they have kept their set-up almost entirely hardware-based for live performance and after playing hundreds of gigs over the coming years, have remained one of the few genuinely live psytrance acts around.
The highlights of Zetan Spore’s extensive live performances include playing to a 25,000 strong crowd at the Euphoria Festival in Singapore, a stunning set high up in the Swiss Alps with Visions of Paradise and headline sets for Antiworld, Synergy Project, Whirl-y-Gig, Sunrise, Cabbage, Remedy, Conscious Monkeys and Symbiosis, plus top slots at Waveform, Beautiful Days, Sunrise, Bearded Theory, Alchemy, Cosmo, Symmetry, Endorse It, Off The Tracks and Eastern Haze festivals, not to mention hundreds of other live appearances at festivals, live music venues and clubs.
Their music can best be described as truly psychedelic, driving, full-power psytrance, breaking in huge waves of energy and positivity, with didgeridoo-fuelled tribal breaks and searing guitar riffs adding more depth and power to their sound.
Having a reputation for incredibly energetic and uplifting live performances, and taking the crowd to a whole new level, they’ve built up a large and enthusiastic following and never fail to rock the dancefloor.
After the global success of his debut studio album ‘Unleash The Beat‘, and a succession of hit . . . tracks over the last few years, Sonic Species is established as one of the world’s leading Psytrance artists. Having performed repeatedly at most of the leading international events, the signature Sonic Species sound is now blasting loud in all four corners of the globe. Following his recent signing with the legendary Nano Records, his second album is scheduled for release in 2018.
Sonic Species and Avalon have also joined forces to launch their new Psytrance project ‘Future Frequency’. They have just released their debut album ‘Freakuencies‘ on Nano Records which features solo tracks and collaborations with many of the scene’s leading artists.
Morten Granau cuts his teeth on Trance music. DJing and producing already at a barely legal age, the . . . young man from Copenhagen today is held to be one of the most up-and-coming talents of the lively Danish scene, a youthful and highly dynamic source of pumping Progressive grooves. It is 2001 when 13-year old Morten discovers the realm of ‘adult pleasures’ – one of the most fascinating ones being Psytrance. Instantly hooked he starts creating own tracks on his computer, also he gets into DJing. At the age of only 15 he is setting on fire the floors at legendary local clubs of his hometown. Morten Granau’s production style is varied and hard to pinpoint. There is a very deep and psychedelic touch of classic Progressive Trance to it, but also a modern feeling of clubby funkiness. Together with his good friend Phaxe he gains first attention with the track “The Grudge”, released under the duo’s project name High & Mighty. The title that marks a turning point in his solo career is “The Way Life Should Be” which gains great international feedback when being published in 2008. The increasing popularity of Morten’s entertaining grooves makes him a welcome guest at parties and festivals around the world. Besides releasing high-quality Progressive Trance under his civic name and creating progressive and deep house tracks as High & Mighty, the young go-getter is also known as the One Man Orchestra which stands for melodic Minimal Techno and Deephouse.
